Brief: TBC
An existing row of garages, with permission for first floor studio above. The existing block & beam floor was extended to accommodate the new footprint. A timber frame construction – 250mm deep – sheathed in Bitroc & insulated with Steico hemp. The external rainscreen walls to the road were built in brick to match the existing – the walls to the garden side were – Diffutherm boards were fixed & rendered with lime based render.
The barrel roof was formed using 3 structural Glulams – joists were I – beams 250mm deep – Insulted with Warmcel. The porthole windows are high performance Vrogrum – The sliding doors, garden door & main entrance door are in Douglas Fir – the stairs in Ash to match the floor & barrelled ceiling. The main internal wall is of 200mm Hemcrete & lime rendered. Bespoke wood burning stove to the studio space. Monodraught light tubes were used in the main space, over the stairs & in the bathroom. Lindab rainwater/guttering & powder coated Aluminium fascias & barge boards. Cefil single ply membrane to the roof.
