The Yard – Wells Somerset
Brief: TBC
A derelict site within walking distance of the town. The brief was to construct a single storey dwelling within the existing buildings & footprint. The majority of the new build was timber frame – built off a plinth – sheathed in Bitroc & insulated with Warmcel. The timber used was “Ultra – joist” – an FSC timber which is treated so that that there is little moisture content & therefore dimensionally stable, with very little movement. Essentially the existing walls & those rebuilt were used as a rainscreen to the timber frame. In addition to reusing stone for the external walls – some panels were clad in Larch. The windows are, high performance – Rationel. Lindab rainwater/guttering was used & stainless steel used for the low pitch roof over the living area.
