CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS

We can carry out all aspects of a construction project from demolition to finishing. We can adapt to many methods of construction, but we have been honing our own efficient and sustainable approach for many years. We like to build with sustainably-sourced timber and use WARMCELL insulation made from 100% recycled newsprint. This quick and clean method consistently achieves exceptional levels of air-tightness and thermal efficiency. See a 3D tour of our build system here.

Timber frame

Picture
Greenheart have two decades' experience building modern, highly insulated timber frame buildings. If you require the structural timber frame element of a house we can provide it, from the bare structure to a waterproof insulated shell. Your timber frame can be stick-built on site. This is ideal for smaller projects, unusual shapes and awkward sites where access for lorries and cranes is difficult. Alternatively we can offer prefabricated frames in conjunction with our associates at PYC, built in their dedicated factory in Wales for an efficient build and reduced on-site construction time.
We can provide a timber frame with full airtight detailing as part of your Passive House project.

WARMCEL Insulation

Picture
Manufactured from 100% recycled newsprint with fire retardant salts, WARMCEL Thermal is the perfect insulation material for timber framed buildings. The material comes compacted into 12kg bags which are fed into a machine that chops them up and then pumps the insulation at the required density into the wall, floor or ceiling voids. As part of a new-build, we can offer advice, full technical backup and help with your design needs. The benefits of using WARMCEL are many:

  • Good sound insulation
  • Improved air tightness – no voids
  • Ideal for highly insulated low energy timber frame houses
  • Carbon neautral
  • Rapid installation
  • Recycled material
  • Good U values

Airtightness

Picture
Greenheart have an excellent track record in achieving impressive air test results. We have skilled staff confident of providing the level of airtightness required to achieve and exceed Passivhaus standards – 0.6ACH. Airtightness is easily achievable, so long as the correct products are fitted by knowledgeable people in the correct way at the correct time.  We employ the concept of an ‘air tight champion’ on site whose job is to ensure everybody on site is aware of what is needed. That person is passionate and well trained, with a good knowledge of the products available to guarantee success. A successful air test is a great feeling and gives the whole team a sense of satisfaction and pride. Greenheart can act as an airtightness consultant on your construction project or offer training for designers or builders in the form of CPD or tool box talks.

MVHR

Picture
Greenheart have a team dedicated to fitting high quality Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems.  We fit MVHR systems into our own projects and, as a subcontractor, in other new build projects. If you choose MVHR we believe it’s worth spending a bit more on a high quality system, and that the ducting for your Heat Recovery System should be as important as the structure of the house.  We prefer working with quality materials such as rigid Lindab steel ducting or semi rigid flexible ducting and Passivhaus certified MVHR units. This approach ensures the MVHR system delivers what you expect:

•    Silent – so quiet most people are not aware of it
•    High efficiency – minimising any ‘cold draught feeling’
•    Stays balanced
•    Long-lasting
•    Maximum efficiency to minimise energy bills

The design of your MVHR system is critical if it’s going to meet your needs. As part of your new-build, Greenheart can do this in-house or in conjunction with the Green Building Store who are one of the leading Passivhaus MVHR suppliers in the UK.
