We have set to work on the refurbishment and extension of a tired 1950's two-storey house in Backwell, near Bristol, designed in collaboration with s2 design.
A large two-storey, open plan Timber frame extension will have lots of glass to the rear of the building to make the most of the views over the Severn estuary, with WARMCEL insulation and high spec triple glazed windows keeping it snug. The existing house will be fully refurbished with new windows, improved levels of insulation and new interior layout. The Timber Frame is in place and we continue to make good progress at the Passive House in Nailsea, Somerset.
Work continues at Rose Cottage in Kingsdown, Bristol...
We have started work on a new single-storey house in France Lynch, Gloucestershire, designed to blend into the hillside.
The house will be dug into the bank with a sedum roof, and walls clad in timber and local stone. It will be very highly insulated - aiming for an airtightness result of less than 1 ac/h - with an MVHR system and triple glazed windows. We collaborated with Millar+howard workshop for the planning designs, with detailed design and build by the Greenheart team. Foundations and retaining wall are now underway with the timber frame due to start in December. We completed Rose House in Kingsdown, Bristol, a few years back, working in partnership with Emmett Russell to build a highly insulated, timber-framed new build family home, with excellent airtightness results.
Now some of the Greenheart team are back to begin the next phase on this plot... Having stripped the original building down to four walls, the guys are preparing a weather-tight shell for a new two-bedroom cottage which will take its place. Built to similar sustainable building principles as Rose House, the cottage will be airtight and well insulated with high performance windows. The half tonne RSJ is now in place... Are you a skilled and experienced carpenter? We've got a busy period ahead and could use an extra pair of hands to join our friendly team. Please contact us if you're cheerful, skilled and hardworking, and would like to help us continue our high standards in sustainable building.
We have just started work on a new three bedroom Passive House in Nailsea, designed in collaboration with S2 Design and Piers Sadler Consulting.
The clients wanted a future proofed house, so a full-roof integrated PV system alongside battery storage and air-source heat pump will be installed. The bespoke timber framed house will be built to Passivhaus standards and certified, with completion due June 2018. Watch this space for progress updates! Our new website is finally live! We hope you enjoy browsing our selected projects and reading more about what we do. Please do get in touch if you'd like to work together in the future to build another beautiful, sustainable home, extension or Passive House. Ian Mawditt of FourWalls has commissioned the MVHR at our Priory Garden project, saying "The commissioning went very well, and the system has been set for optimal operation. Please congratulate the guys – definitely one of the best quality installations I have seen recently – probably your best so far." The Greenheart team is happy with that and so is the client! Gorgeous parquet flooring has now been laid at our Priory Garden new build project in Bath and it's looking great!
Great to see our Design & Build project in Calne, Wiltshire featured in the latest issue of Selfbuild & Design magazine...
We are joining forces with The Green Register, a Bristol-based sustainable building training and events organisation, to run a site visit to our Priory Garden project in Bath on January 26th.
This will offer a practical look at the realities of air-tightness, cold bridging, MVHR, timber frame and practical issues around Passivhaus. About the project:
